Backgrounder & Nomination Process

The 2012 ceremony will take place at the Essar Centre in Sept.
The Sault Ste. Marie Walk of Fame was founded in 2006 and is located on the south side of Queen St. E., adjacent to the Essar Centre. It is a joint project between the City of Sault Ste. Marie and the Downtown Association.
Each spring, the public is encouraged to submit the names of those former/current residents who they believe should be recognized for outstanding achievement in one (or more) of the following areas: athletic, cultural, academic or humanitarian achievement, outstanding contribution to community business, environment, sports, science or entertainment.
The Walk of Fame Committee (comprised of representatives from city hall, the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Association and the public) selects that year's inductees. Walk of Fame inductees are celebrated at a public ceremony that takes place the third Saturday in September and are honoured with a granite maple leaf embedded within the sidewalk. Refer to our Photo Gallery link for photos of Walk of Fame inductees and past ceremonies.
